HALEKULANI HOTEL OAHU

Halekulani Hotels and Resorts Corporation owns and manages two hotels in Waikiki - the luxurious Halekulani and the more moderately priced Waikiki Parc Hotel. While the two properties are distinct in character and location, they maintain the unique special care and comfort of the Hotels & Resorts of Halekulani. The Corporation has a tradition of luxury and legendary service for discriminating travelers.
Halekulani, meaning House Befitting Heaven in Hawaiian, is the older of the two hotels and has been accommodating discriminating travelers to Waikiki Beach since 1917. It was in that year that Clifford and Juliet Kimball purchased a residential hotel owned by Robert Lewers, which consisted of a beachfront home and five bungalows. For three years they ran it the way it was till the late 1920s when they tore down the old Lewers home and replaced it with a mansion-like building. This Main Building was designed by architect C.W. Dickey, who gave a unique design to the roof. This unique feature, which came to be known as Dickey roof, is a high pitched hip-roof, designed to catch the cooling trade winds.
The Kimballs gradually expanded the hotel to its Main Building and 37 one- and two-story bungalows located on five acres of prime land. It soon became a luxurious resort and attracted wealthy vacationers. After the death of the Kimballs, Halekulani was first bought by the Norton Clapp family of Seattle, and then by Mitsui Real Estate Development Co., Ltd. in 1981. The new owners formed the Halekulani Corporation to run the hotel. They refurbished the hotel and modernized it while retaining its old spirit, and finally reopened it in 1984. Since then it has maintained the reputation of being one of the worlds top luxury resorts, renowned for its gracious hospitality, impeccable service and fine cuisine.
Halekulani has been ranked the # 3 hotel in the world for service in the "Top 10 Overall" category and the # 1 hotel for service in Hawaii in the "Top 10 Hawaii" category by the readers of Travel & Leisure magazine in the publications 2004 Worlds Best Service Readers' Survey. It has also received a rating of 97.55 out of a score of 100 in the surveyed properties of the United States and Canada. In 1987 the Waikiki Parc Hotel was built with the intention of having a reasonably priced hotel to serve more travelers. Remodeled in the year 2003, Waikiki Parcs rates are known to offer excellent value compared to other hotels offering the same services. It is also the only breakfast inclusive hotel in Waikiki.
