Aston
Hotels and Resorts is renowned for offering Hawaii’s best
vacation values. From budget to luxury, Aston offers its guests
the best possible accommodations for the price. In March 2004,
Aston was recognized by Travel and Leisure Magazine as one of
50 Most Affordable Beachfront Resorts in the World.
The
Aston history begins in 1948 in Waikiki when Frenchman Joseph
Tatibouet and his Hawaiian wife Annalie Knaack began offering
lodgings to visitors at the Royal Grove Hotel built in a grove
of palm trees that once belonged to Princess Kaiulani, heir
to the Hawaiian throne. Success for the Tatibuets was quick,
mainly because of their idea of the non-traditional hotel room
- one with a kitchenette. This proved popular among families
and the value-conscious traveler. The Tabouets managed the lodgings
themselves with no employees. Their son, Andre, learned the
trade of hospitality by helping his parents after school hours.
In
1959, also the year when Hawaii became a state, Andre Tatibouet,
then an 18-year old University of Hawaii freshman, built his
first property, the four-story Cleghorn Apartment Hotel in Waikiki.
After his graduation, Andre went a step further and began laying
the groundwork for his first major project, the 360 room Pacific
Beach Hotel in Waikiki. Things progressed fast, and in 1968,
he formed Hotel Corporation of the Pacific to manage the Pacific
Beach Hotel, the Kuhiolani Hotel condominium and his parents'
original property. The same year Andre married Jane, who joined
her husband in running the business, which grew at a fast pace
with increase in the tourism trade.
The
Tatibuets also pioneered the idea of resort condominiums. They
developed innovative operating formulas by blending the idea
of hotels with that of condominiums. They furnished condominiums
just like hotels with the same services and amenities, and offered
them to guests at affordable prices. This made Hotel Corporation
of the Pacific one of the first resort condominium companies.
In
1986, after extensive market research, Aston became the new
name for Hotel Corporation of the Pacific Inc. The objective
of the name was to make it short and in the same vein as Hilton,
Sheraton, and Westin. The name was made to start with an A so
as to make it come first in the alphabetical listing of hotels.
By
the year 1998, 50 years after the humble opening of 14 rooms
with no employees, Aston had grown to more than 5,000 suites
in 30 properties throughout the island of Hawaii, and the company
employing more than 2,100 people. Today it has grown even further
with Aston becoming by far the largest and best-known vacation
property rental and Management Company in Hawaii and one of
the largest international hotel chains in the Pacific Rim. With
properties ranging from economical to elegant, and accommodations
from affordable hotels to luxury condominium resorts, Aston
today caters to a wide cross-section of travel needs and budgets.
What Aston is best known for in the resort market is its "Best
Value".
Today
13 of the 30 hotels and condominium resorts are located in Waikiki,
all on or near the beach. Choices range from budget to luxury,
all offering best possible accommodations for the price. Warm
aloha spirit welcomes you at Aston.
