Honolulu International Airport is the major aviation gateway for not only Oahu, but for the State of Hawaii. Located about three miles west of Downtown Honolulu and seven miles from Waikiki, it is the primary hub for domestic, overseas and inter-island flights. Its two parallel east-west runways, two parallel crosswind runways, and associated taxiways cater to the following airlines - Air Canada, Air New Zealand, Air Pacific, Air Transat, All Nippon Airways/Air Japan, Aloha Airlines, American, American Trans Air/Pleasant Hawaiian Holidays, China Airlines, Continental, Delta, Hawaiian Air, Island Air, Japan Airlines/Jalways, Korean Air, Northwest/KLM, Omni Air International, Pacific Wings, Polynesian Airlines, Qantas Airways, Suntrips/Sky Service USA/Ryan International Air, and United Airlines. Facilities at the airport include ATMs and bureaux de change, plenty of restaurants and bars, a duty-free shop in the Main Terminal, as well as numerous other shops, and a 24-hour medical centre, besides business and conference facilities. Taxis are available on the centre median, and the licensed shuttle service, the Waikiki Express, serves the hotels in Waikiki. There are several city bus services. The city bus system in Honolulu is called ‘The Bus’. Bus no.19 eastbound and bus no.20 follow different routes to central Waikiki; bus no.19 westbound goes to Hickham Air Force Base, while bus no.20 goes to the Pearlridge Shopping Center, both via downtown Honolulu. Please note that 'The Bus' has luggage restrictions so if you are carrying anything more than a small carry-on you need to seek alternate transportation. Besides being the major airport of entry and departure for the Hawaiian Islands, Honolulu International Airport also serves as a stopover for flights from mainland U.S. to Asia and other neighboring islands. The hotels located near the airport, such as The Best Western Plaza Hotel and Honolulu Airport Hotel, are perfect for a layover for such travelers.
