Okura
Hotels & Resorts is a Japanese hospitality brand, categorized
in the top five "Star Class" luxury worldwide hotel
brands. While offering all the modern amenities of Western rivals,
Okura Hotels have retained the subtle, aesthetic beauty and
warm hospitality important to Japanese tradition. Their principle
is to offer the best of accommodations, service, and cuisine
to visitors and travelers.
It
was Baron Kishichiro Okura’s dream of establishing the
first international luxury hotel in Tokyo which would have all
the western style amenities and yet retain the typical Japanese
character. This dream of his was realized on May 20, 1962, when
the first Okura Hotel opened its doors. It didn’t take
long before the hotel became popular and prominent names from
around the globe came to stay at this luxurious place. By 1972
there were Okura Hotels in Amsterdam and Guam as well, and with
more hotels opening in Japan, in 1978 the Okura Hotel chain
owned and ran 8 hotels. Okura Hotels expanded fast with the
opening of even more hotels. In 1998, the chain changed its
name to Okura Hotels and Resorts, and in the year 2002 a partnership
was reached with Raffles International Hotels & Resorts.
Today
Okura Hotels and Resorts has expanded to 25 properties (total
of 7440 rooms) worldwide, which includes Halekulani Hotels and
Resorts Corporation’s Halekulani Hotel and Waikiki Parc
Hotel in Honolulu, Hawaii.
